For the past seven years, Portland based artist Nate Orton has frequented the Portland Art Museum in order to analyze and draw his favorite and sometimes least favorite master works of the museum's permanent art collection.

For this show, Nate has selected over a dozen paintings and sculptures that have repeatedly caught his eye over the years. Nate draws the original composition while bending (and sometimes diminishing) the meaning, composition and purpose of the old works in order to bring them closer to his own artistic voice.

Nate Orton holds a BFA in studio art/printmaking and has been exhibiting his work throughout Portland since 2005. He's also the publisher of My Day, a sporadically published zine documenting various day trips in works, pictures and ephemera. Much of what he observes on these pedestrian odysseys are reworked into larger drawings and paintings.
